About Us
Physician Professional Development Utilizing Structured Longitudinal Mentorship
We live, train, and work within a plastic and volatile healthcare system. Increasing demands for cost containment, time efficiency and effective healthcare delivery have migrated from primary care fields into the operating room of the anesthesiologist.
In both academic and private sectors, the skill set required to become and thrive as an anesthesiologist continues to grow. Success requires learning beyond the structured classroom. The wisdom and insight imparted during clinical training between an attending and resident are key components to the development of the professional. The series of informal experiences shape how each resident prepares for professional life. Physicians at multiple levels of training may benefit from an enriched structure which enhances formalized training.
The primary objective:
Identify the key components for professional development of anesthesiologists
The secondary objectives:
-
Identify anesthesiologists willing to serve as mentors to students, residents, fellows and faculty
-
Establish a bimonthly mentorship program for facilitating longitudinal mentor-mentee relationships to enhance clinical and professional growth.
-
Establish a pathway for dissemination of clinically and professionally relevant data
This project is the result of a group of dedicated physicians, passionate about mentorship and the growth of their mentees and colleagues. It is our hope that the joy, fellowship and support from these early meeting be carried forward.
We are grateful to the ASA Committee on Professional Diversity for their support.
